The Trans-Siberian railway connects Europe and China, extending the wide gauge network over 9,500 km through Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. In Europe and in China the cross-over from the wide gauge to the normal gauge is effected through specially equipped terminals positioned in Brest (Belarus)/Malaszewicze (Poland) for the northern connection, and Chop (Ukraine)/Dobra (Slovakia) or Zahony (Hungary) for the southern connection. In the Far East the main cross-over point is Zabaikalsk (Russia)/Manzhouli (China); from there most of our shipments are operated. It is followed by our southern connection via Dostyk (Kazakhstan)/Alashankou (China), which serves Chongqing trains. The routing via Vostochny is primarily used to connect South Korean and Chinese ports by vessel, operated for quantities of 30 FEU per shipment.
The transit time depends on many factors which influence the operational production of the transport like the relation (loading/unloading place), the volume (block-train or single container), and on the pre-/on-carriage system chosen in Europe (trucking or railing ex border). In average the transit time is about 12-14 days for block-trains and18-21 days for single container shipments. The fastest lead-time is achieved by arranging block-train volumes of approximately 40 FEU per shipment.
Comparing transport modalities Comparing the three transport modalities it appears that Far East Land Bridge’s railway offer is slightly more expensive than the vessel, however the transit-time is reduced by more than the half. The air freight although being the quickest solution entails enormous expenses. For example the cost for one 40ft container sent by air freight is approximately 10 times higher.      New supply chain concept Our service is giving our clients the possibility to completely change the concept of their logistics supply chain by switching urgent cargo from the air freight to the railway, earning considerable savings in costs.

COMPARISON

ADVANTAGES

.
Railway vs. air freight & sea freight
Interests and working capital One of the most important economic advantages, which is to be considered individually, is the short term capital commitment and the small losses of commercial interests, especially for containers loaded with high-value goods. Many of our clients benefit from this opportunity and are sending cargos with a value of more than 1 million USD per container.
Short transit time More than 6.500 containers are distributed over strategically favorable main terminals and depots in China, South Korea and Europe, being at disposal for new transport orders.        FELB maintains a large stock of heavy tested 40ft HC, 40ft DV and 20ft DV containers. In addition our partners can provide any time containers for one- way shipments to CIS and STAN countries.
Security • Liability insurance up to USD 15.000.000 per incident • Security guard accompanying each train on CIS territory • RFID – Monitoring • GPS devices available on demand for high-value goods or trial shipments
Environment The Land Bridge route saves 75% of the carbon footprint of the ocean route while running only 11.000 km instead 22.000 km on the sea route. On top of that it uses electrified railways mostly powered from hydroelectric sources. It also reduces the serious congestion which exists in and around the seaports involved in the east-west container trade, by moving containers from truck-to rail.
