FAQs

Availability of containers and equipment The Trans-Siberian railway connects Europe and China, extending the wide gauge network over 9,500 km through Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. In Europe and in China the cross-over from the wide gauge to the normal gauge is effected through specially equipped terminals positioned in Brest (Belarus)/Malaszewicze (Poland) for the northern connection, and Chop (Ukraine)/Dobra (Slovakia) or Zahony (Hungary) for the southern connection. In the Far East the main cross-over point is Zabaikalsk (Russia)/Manzhouli (China); from there most of our shipments are operated. It is followed by our southern connection via Dostyk (Kazakhstan)/Alashankou (China), which serves Chongqing trains. The routing via Vostochny is primarily used to connect South Korean and Chinese ports by vessel, operated for quantities of 30 FEU per shipment.
Guarantee of container shipments via the Trans-Siberian route FELB is part of the RZD group, and is in close cooperation with TC and RZDL. We have full support of Russian Railways on the transit and on the border crossing, which guarantees high level performance.
Tracing/Monitoring FELB offers daily tracing information, which is sent from our staff in E-Mail form. For high value goods or if requested by the client, we can use GPS monitoring systems.
Procedure of the transit customs clearance at the border crossing The export procedure is completed at the last European customs office of exit; the goods are declared by FELB also in Belarus and Russia (Brest route) and in Ukraine and Russia (Zahony, Dobra route). This process results in no loss of time in transit as all data are available in transit customs offices at an early stage. This form of processing is one of the unique features of FELB’s service to achieve the fastest possible transit time.
Time needed between order/payment advice and provision to the supplier After concluding a binding offer which requires an appropriate examination and approval, a lead time of one week is usually sufficient.
Routing ex Europe to Korea European exit checkpoints for eastbound shipments are Malaszewicze (PL)/Brest (BY), Dobra (SK)/Chop (UA) and Zahony (HU)/Chop (UA). The Belarusian and Ukrainian railway branches consolidate in Bryansk.
Sealing of containers Containers will be provided with customs seals.
Border crossing (CIS/EU) All transit shipments pass via the border station Manzhouli/Zabaikalsk and Brest/Malaszewicze (on the northern route) or Dobra/Chop (on the southern route) in Europe. During the border crossing the containers are transshipped from European/Chinese standard gauge wagons to CIS wide gauge wagons or vice versa. In addition there is a way bill change from SMGS (CIS) to CIM (EU). This is a very quick process which needs on average fewer than 24 h.
Pre-Carriage / On-Carriage FELB´s core business is terminal-terminal container shipments , but in the last few years the demand of pre/on-carriage service has increased dramatically, and with this we have gained experience and flexibility to provide a Door-to-Door service.
Transit Time One of the main advantages which we offer is the short transit time compared to the sea freight performance. The transit time depends on container volume per shipment and routing. Basically the average transit time for single container is about 21 days, and for block-train shipments about 14-18 days. We are the perfect solution between sea freight and air freight.
Documentation The documentation which we need for our shipments is really simple: Packing list / invoice / export declaration. In special cases we could need some specification of the cargo. In transit we have created unique document, “Cargo Manifest“, which contains all information on the container, allowing a fast border crossing.
Experience FELB operates container service via Trans-Siberian Route since 2007, with a steady growth and development. In 2014 we shipped approximately 30.000 containers, including our automotive trains from Europe to China with daily block-trains departure / 16 days in average transit-time.
